In 2004,we marked Twenty Years! of helping to build tourism, cultural and arts enterprises and strengthen communities. Over eighty-five assignments have been completed in all regions of Newfoundland and Labrador and elsewhere in Atlantic Canada.
In addition, we have completed numerous land use planning projects with both direct and indirect impacts on the tourism industry, for public and private sector clients. |
The work has involved extensive market research, product development, business planning and economic impact assessment.
The Result: an in-depth understanding of global and local travel markets and how to take the tourism industry to the next level in Newfoundland and Labrador and the Atlantic Region. |

A number of tourism issues relevant to Municipalities surfaced in 2003/2004, during preparation of the Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism Product Development Strategy, in which D.W. Knight Associates played a key role.
The issues include: land use planning and management, community environmental quality and character, working effectively with the non-profit sector, offering tourism experiences that complement rather than duplicate those of other communities and planning for summer and winter season opportunities.
Councils will need to take strategic actions in areas such as these if their communities are to become successful tourism destinations. Some are easier to solve than others but they all need to be informed by quality, well interpreted research that identifies the needs and trends of the marketplace. |
